Brighton & Hove Albion FC, commonly known as Brighton, is a professional football club based in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, England. Founded in 1901, the club’s traditional nickname is “The Seagulls,” reflecting their coastal heritage. Brighton initially competed in local leagues before joining the Football League in 1920.

After decades in the lower divisions, Brighton achieved their first promotion to the top flight in 1979. They famously reached the FA Cup Final in 1983 but lost to Manchester United after a replay.
